Balancing amidst Turbulence

“Don’t let the behavior of others disturb your inner peace.”

Like I’ve said in the past… one of the more interesting parts of rock balancing is engaging the moment.. which includes the changing weather, season, water levels, sunlight, ALL the subtle nuances that fluctuate in the moment… I refer to this season as RAGE SEASON… as the creek flows at sometimes dangerous rates… I recommend working in these conditions ONLY for the experienced… one wrong move can lead to being washed away and tumbled over rocks… the water is POWERFUL.. submission and humbleness are necessary…  it is possible to work in resistance to the flow… but resistance required firmly rooted stances, and careful movement.  attention must always be paid to the forces greater than yourself..

Along with the raging water comes MUD and zero visibility for seeing and choosing rocks… so new techniques must be applied.  These conditions force me to feel with my feet for loose rocks… i grab whatever i can as most loose rocks simply tumble down creek with the heavy flow… The sense is much more spontaneous as I take rocks that are GIVEN to me as opposed to rummaging for my FAVORITE rocks… but along with this come creations more in line with the unconscious in my opinion..

This creation came about by grabbing rocks one after the other and placing them as the come… not really any plan.. just place one rock, figure out where the next rock needs to go to re-establish balance… While somewhat random, I must still pay attention to the collective weight I am intending, and balance my way up accordingly, applying the right downward pressure to find the correct locking points to support my overall intention of weight..

In the end, I love how this one turned out.. :)  Funky :D
