Sunrise

So far this is the point of peak ice, as most of the arch gap is filled in.  after this temperatures will rise above zero for the day.

Sunset

Along with drastic temperature difference came drastic transformation of ice. Up to this point, the ice has grown and receded in a mostly linear fashion with gravity. But now the ice melts more randomly it seems. perhaps also due to the drastic shift from frozen and overcast to melting and sunny. Each time I visit this arch there is a mood of surrealism…sightly alien to witness in person… This time the ice looks more like the shapes of fire… gravity fire..?

Resonance

One of the more fascinating parts of this whole scene for me is the similar geometric pattern that the waves make just below the bridge… the pattern can only really be noticed with the long shutter..  but the pattern is distinct and appears in almost all my photos.. EXCEPT today at sunrise (see beginning of post) when the water looks to be much higher… hence distorting whatever resonant frequency it displayed..

The pattern depended on a series of elements including flow direction, terrain, flow pressure, rock arrangement..

The water displayed defined 3 dimensional contours like this over a 6 second shutter speed.. so i imagine there must have been some kind of resonance happening.. :)  (someone correct me if i’m wrong..  or maybe you have more insight into the subject..?)

In this case especially, I like how the sun and ice light up the bridge from behind.. while exposing the front rocks.. The half melted snow makes me think of a half-melted bionic creature of sorts.. or a giant eye spewing geometric resonance..?  ha
