Full Moon Meditation

While viewing this balance, I would like to include the following quote because it is quite profound, and possibly applicable through this art form…

“If every 8 year old in the world is taught meditation, we will eliminate violence from the world within one generation.”

~ Dalai Lama

2012 is nearing an end. An absolutely unbelievable year. This balance was intended for the Full Moon this eve; the last one of 2012. I’ve been visiting Colorado Springs for a week now and have fallen in love with Garden of the Gods (again).  I looked around for awhile to find a nice perch for a balance overlooking Pikes Peak in the background.  The presence of this mountain is intensely inspiring in her silent loom over Garden of the Gods; compassion and strength in purest form. So I would simply like to share the beautiful moment I experienced this afternoon.  Sometimes I feel a slight expectation that my balances must always be improving in order to keep viewers happy… but this defies the simplicity of stone balance. It is MORE than art.  It is ritual. It is thank you. It is meditation and silence. I most definitely enjoy challenging myself with difficult configurations, but I also love sitting and appreciating the beauty around me. It heals the soul in so many ways… Hence my joy in sharing..

  1. Your work is extraordinary! I used to build and photograph latas in Central Park, NYC (which looking back were child’s-play next to your creations). Thank you.

  2. happy New Year, I have just been to Namibia (south West Africa) there are more rocks there than you could know what t do with, some balancing naturally!!!! You would be in heaven there.

  3. :) for perspective, the top rock was prollly no more than 13 or 14 inches length-wise.. the terrain there is kinda wild.. weird formations everywhere..

  4. and if every person in china jumped off a chair at the same time, the earth would be knocked off its axis…unfortunately we live in a world where this is more likely to happen
