Diary of a Rock Balancer ::

Stone Balance Art created and photographed by Michael Grab — 09 February 2016 — Kaplankaya, Turkey ::

Based on my exploration of Kaplankaya, Turkey is beginning to show quite remarkable variety of stone to play with along the coast. For example, this stuff… super sharp, super brittle, high friction, alien shapes, which must be balanced with utmost care to avoid both personal injury and degradation of the surfaces. not much room for adjustment so initial placements require more foresight than usual, a bit like balancing crystals. and the resulting character looks strange at best. but i like strange. not my first preference of stones suitable for balancing, but i had to do it. why? curiosity i guess. which is often a precursor to magic.
