Diary of a Rock Balancer ::
Stone Balance Art created and photographed by Michael Grab — 01 April 2016 — Colorado, USA ::
This is an important creation in the realm of stone balance evolution…
Invention of an entire style that heavily influenced many in the global community.. . In a way it was a bit accidental… original vision was my usual top heavy spinal style of recent months, with the biggest rock on top. The biggest rock at the equator here was originally meant for the top.. until i placed it as seen and decided to run with it. It evolved into a blend with my old school style of topping towers off with sequences of smaller rocks. But here, it requires ultimate precision, working over a most delicate top heavy spine. In the realm of physical strength and endurance, This is generally easier and more relaxing than using biggest rock on top, kinda. But i highly recommend sitting because the most important skill for this style is finesse, steady breathing, sometimes even holding breath….especially with so much top weight composed of small rocksThis one did not require sitting, but a stable sitting asana is important for achieving the most complex arrangements. This is first of it’s kind, really across the whole genre of stone balancing, I didn’t like this at first, but it grows on me.. so i look forward to developing the whim. . :)
Also, a funny thing when i first published this, it wasn’t even 24 hours before much of the community began deriving further iterations of this basic concept. myself included!

[…] a recent invention further. . ! I guess this would be a hybrid with legs . […]
beautiful.
I saw these a lot in California. Such balance.
Made this random stack today. The biggest rock in the stack was so heavy I could barely lift it.
Excuse me
The maximum time you can remain at your work there?

I am amazed every time I see one of your images. I don’t know how you manage to do it, and by that I mean the balancing act, let alone the photography. That, in and of itself, is its own work of art! Fantastic!
there we go. originality. nice job
Well, I mean, you know…

Nope– check out some of his videos of him actually stacking them.
Fake videos.
George Blevins III ha! OK, I get you now!
Wow!!
Next phase is to draw the physics of what we see. Where’s the line of energy and balance here? we can see it in the rock but would be fascinating to see how they are moving on each other to hold the line!
It would be interesting to a have a slow motion time lapse video on them to see if there is any moment.
THE MANY WAYS
I am in AWE!
