I imagine it is nearly, if not impossible to create perfect symmetry with natural stone. The form of rocks is relative chaos. When I selected these rocks, it was done quickly (freezing water) with little mind to the notion of symmetry.. I tried placing the second rock up in several different orientations before seeing this balance point and realizing it. it only works with the weight above holding it in place.
In a way, for me this arrangement represents the “Phi” of this particular selection of rocks. The relation of forms creates an overall flow where each rock plays an integral part to the overall movement.. I call this Phi because, although there are several other possibilities of arranging these four rocks, this arrangement stirs the most energy FOR ME through a dance of proportions, symmetry, asymmetry, color, shapes, angles, curves…etc. Not to mention the way it sharply etches its presence into the surrounding ice.. :)
wowww…just awesome…
