A Calm Day at the Lake

2013-1662

Here is a new spot along the same lake that I found with rocks… here the rock variety was very similar to the cotton spot, but included MANY more rocks to choose from… it was a very quiet place near the local beach, which was the eastern-most edge of the lake.  Conditions changed drastically here depending on the slightest change in wind directions. However, I learned that this palce grew quite calm with any kind of westerly wind. Why? because behind the camera here was a wall of forest, which does a very good job of cutting down the regular daily winds.

The cotton and pier spots lay just beyond the ridge of trees seen here on the right.  These photos are from mid-day. When the wind is calm, there is a heavy silence here… I LOVE it!!  something i rarely feel in the creek in Boulder, CO. Sunsets were also very beautiful from this place, as you will see in the following post when I return to photograph this balance in the setting sun.

Someone once asked me what i thought of the ambient sounds of the places i’m working in.. at that point i had only really experienced either steadily flowing water of the creek, or waves of crashing tides on the italian coast.  Each set of sounds had a distinct effect on the subconscious i imagine.  Here in Grundtjarn was something new (on windless days).  There was NOTHING. the sound was a void. no steady flowing. no waves. just pure silence.  It is easy to become lost in time while balancing in this silence… minutes turn into hours before I realize. I needed this. to whoever it may concern… THANKS <3
