Diary of a Rock Balancer ::
Stone Balance Art created and photographed by Michael Grab — 02 April 2016 — Colorado, USA ::
“I don’t expect you to understand, but I’m glad if you do.”
Further experimentation with yesterday’s “Hybrid Style”.. This one significantly more precise in that the top wave sits essentially above a tic tac toe style arrangement, which is 3 rocks, end to end (vertical), small contacts.. traditional tic tac toe usually requires tiny contacts and biggest rock up top. This essentially combines the whole top section to act like one giant rock. Most of the final adjustments were down low in the T3 section.

Oh that took time boo
You gotta look at his stuff. That’s who I was talking about
Simply Beautiful.
I don’t understand how this is possible. I understand it must take extreme patience, but how is it physically possible. What are the steps
There is Zen at work here.
I live on the Dungeness River near Sequim Washington…I must wait for the water level to drop so I can play with my gazillion rocks.
Amazing.
Ballerina!
One of my favorites! So unique with the round rocks. Where was this one created?
Pretty amazing. ..

Continuing on from my post. We have stopped at an outback river and there they are. They’re also along the dessert tracks obviously where people have spent some time.

Michael Willard we moeten dit echt gaan doen ♡
Yes life is a balancing act
Brilliant
I would love to know the size of the smallest rock in the middle. Just for an idea of scale. I’m guessing the size of a ping pong ball! This is just amazing!
Abbey, have you seen the posts on this page?
I haven’t. I’ve seen the mini doco on the guy that builds them though. It is quite calming to watch, it is like he is listening to the stones
Spencer Corley you’ll like this guy

Those who know, know
what can I say, if it works do it…
Everything has a balance point
WOW
It looks like you have found the key to turn off the laws of physics. I’ve always admired these transitory sculptures. I saw a few in Boulder Creek a year or so ago.
Joel Sandgren, you heard of this guy??
Yea I look at his Instagram pics sometimes.
Super rad
you make me smile.

Don’t need any word nor thought, my heart feels, my heart knows, my heart understands, thank you <3
I understand we’re not supposed to understand Michael Grab ❤
will you be in CO in late July? I would love to have you come to my 60th Birthday Party in Denver.
not quite sure yet. looks like i may be working on a project in norway at the time.
please do let me know. I could pay you, of course, for your time. I would be greatly honored if you do some balances at my party.
C’est la photographie qui contextualise cette oeuvre, tandis que le lieu naturel n’est pas un contexte de l’oeuvre mais une partie de l’oeuvre.
This is one of the most interesting balances I’ve seen from you Michael. The lack of traditional top stone threw me for a loop at first, but I’m quickly falling in love with this one. Thank for all you do, over the past year you inspired me to start balancing and now it’s an integral part of my life. If you’re ever close to southeast Minnesota, let’s shoot the shit a little?
Understand the Laws of Physics behind your masterpiece, you mean? Or what motivates and inspires you to create them?
How do you do these!? Amazing!
Beautiful as always but that light on the rocks and branch…sublime.
How long do they last?
I do I do
My innerstanding informs me that understanding would change nothing and yet attaining it may disrupt everything
Love it
Some things are precarious and only meant to be held in awe during their short existence.
Timmy Corke follow this page ! Gravity Glue
You’re definitely what inspired me to get into it as well
Mais comment ça tient?????????
have never understood how you evolved into the you that you are, only know how your art makes me feel, and that is quite enough, this is so very lovely, as always

Sublime
I DO NOT understand. I just accept. You push me to and over the edge Michael. Thank you.

Life is about balance…
When planets surround us and the earth stands still. You find me by the river to catch a thrill~
“Wisdom, is the power held by those knowing the truth; That we know nothing about everything.”
Two minds can think alike …:-)
And yes I do understand this great art form, because I am trying myself to learn this, just because you gave me the inspiration, thank you so much for being an inspiration for me and so many others, and to bring so much light to this world. Muchas Gracias micheal Grab!
Not Prudhvi Raz Inan Messi. . .isn’t absolutely fake. . . THIS IS TRUE and is the MAGIC of balancing stones made by the top human being stones balancer, Michael Grab.
nope, not fake at all, and if you’ve followed him, since he began, you’ll see exactly how it’s done, and some of his not always successful attempts, until he achieves what he began, always beautiful, always ephemeral
I’m glad just to see it.
Sweet man, people say my rock stacks or cool then I’m like no check this guy out he’s awesome. Love your work!
Its fake
Watch his videos.
This is not fake!
How it possible sue kautz
Prudhvi Raz Inan Messi https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3vAoJhIWms
Prudhvi Raz Inan Messi physics and a lot of patience :)
How much time it takes to built
this one took roughly an hour to build
Minutes, hours or days alot of variables to take in to effect.
Is it possible for a normal person
Prudhvi Raz Inan Messi yes through extensive practice. i’m a normal person.
Gravity Glue :D <3
Bro since am trying 2 hr but i cant build it i lost my patients
Alex Derler a function of the total universe as we know it!… sooooo 13.82 billion years? :))
Prudhvi Raz Inan Messi That’s because it takes years of practice, not 2 hours :)
Hahaha ☺
Lol, this guy. “I cant do it in 2 hours therefore its fake and photoshopped. Obviously requires superpowers to do, fake fake fake.” XDDD
Just know saw the video
K i agree its not a fake it is possible but required a lot of patience
Prudhvi Raz Inan Messi i recommend starting by balancing a single rock on one of its tips. also check out the “About” section on my website, specifically the “how?” paragraph. also another good beginning exercise is to forget how it looks and just balance as high as possible. watch out for your toes! :)
Prudhvi Raz Inan Messi ‘patience’ :)
Gravity Glue what i legit dont understand is how to balance a rock on another when it will just fall because if you touch the balanced rock it loses balance. those two little pebbles in the picture, how did you get the big rock to settle on the small ones, much less the other ones to settle on the big on thats balanced on the small pebbles? <--- hope that makes sense >.<
It all breaks down to how bad you mentality want to make those rocks stand also. It is a different form of meditation and I have realized a lot about my self and humanity through rock stacking. Its crazy the connections you realize after stacking rocks for 10 hours of peace and quietness.
Nash Perry practice, practice, practice, starting with small rocks and then going bigger.
Nash Perry that was the puzzle… incredibly unstable, certainly a bit sketchy placing so much counterbalanced stacked weight on top of an extremely narrow 3-rock combination. the key was steady hands and just going for it. sitting necessary. couldnt even splash water on it, well i did but i killed it.
How many yr of practice and patience required
Prudhvi Raz Inan Messi depends on the person and how much energy they want to invest. i’m 8 years deep.
Michael- don’t give away all your secrets ;) :D
Better put your boots on. And I would start with a single hand sized rock for practice. You might find it clumsy to deal with rocks that are too small. That’s something I learned from the potters wheel. Also, don’t pull your hands away too fast. Relax your fingers first, then move your arms away. (also from pottery) Because I’m familiar with that technique, I noticed Michael doing that in his vids.
Sara Jakubowicz The best doesn’t worry about competition. Even if he gave away all his secrets, only a few (if anyone) could master them and be on his level.
Need to get out and throw some stacks up, this one is mind boggling. I tend to find heavier stones “settle” into ones intended position more quickly than most.
That’s the “glue” in gravity. ;)
Love your work* the energy just in viewing pics. is uplifting* Such a calm balance, now to take this in to my day* Balance…thanks.
I do <3
