Diary of a Rock Balancer ::

Stone Balance Art created and photographed by Michael Grab — 12 July 2016 — Iceland ::

One thing I really love about the rocks in Iceland so far, is the deep dark colors. in this spot, consisting of different shades and colors of extremely hard porous lava rock.. along with interesting chunks of basalt. seen as the top rock here. The challenge with these harder lava rocks was low friction. one might think the porous texture would make them easier to balance.. on the contrary. . the low friction created a situation of easy slips. much closer attention to angles and limits required.

This was, i think, the 3rd or 4th build. first one i was pleased with that stood long enough for some photos.. off and on rain.. all around messy day but extremely quiet and therapeutic next to the river.. !
