my favorite balance of the weekend. partly because of the flow of design, africa rocks on tips… the general zen of the space. but also because of its magic.

Not only was this balance the most fragile and difficult to build, but it also stood the longest. in fact it was the only balance still standing after the festival, 3 days after zero. upon creation, caterpillars dropped down from the trees and began spinning webs between the cantilevers. I thought surely that it would be the first to go with the intermittent breezes

i’m still confounded by my observations on this final night. beginning at around midnight, a violent wind storm swept through the area. trees twisted and groaned in the wind. it felt like the earth was washing and renewing the space. out with an old, in with a new awareness of sorts. . . The campsite looked like a mild disaster zone. tents and easy-ups thrown around like rag-dolls. Meanwhile I sat with my garden in absolute awe that this balance and most others, were some of the few things left standing amidst relative chaos. my only logical explanation is the webs. maybe some conscious energy for the others? i have no idea. but i was romantically mystified, possibly because it seemed to me such a shear impossibility based on all previous experience. Pretty amazing to me how nature took over my creation, and strengthened it against the wind. (so goes my theory)

cheers to all the new and old faces i ran into! cheers to the festival staff who worked their asses off to make it all happen. thanks to the land for a pleasantly fresh energy. and cheers to all the creators who came together to amplify that energy into an overall positive vibration.

collaboration with nature: Gravity Glue + Caterpillars + High Winds + Power Outage = Magic.

  1. sometimes I love what you write about the rocks and things learned from the rocks more than I love the pictures of the balances (and I love all the pictures of the balanced rocks intensely!)

  2. So amazing!! I sat in front of this piece and thought about the same things. The webs were so cool and it was amazing (but not surprising) that this balance was able to withstand the windstorm. Props to you on the amazing garden. I shared some great conversation and hugs with some wonderful people around these rocks. Thank you! <3

  3. Love the quote which is so true. We are not static beings, but ever changing, fluid. And thank you for the lovely reminder to believe in Magic! Exactly what I needed to hear today.

  4. This is beautiful. I love reading your posts! I feel your growth and or my own each time you share. It’s truly a magical thing. Please keep writing to use. It’s beautiful. Thank You :) <3

  5. People of talent resemble a musical instrument more closely than they do a musician. Without outside help, they produce not a single sound, but given even the slightest touch, and a magnificent tune emanates from them.

  6. Have you ever been to Mackinac Island – Mackinac.com?? We were there last Thursday and I thought of you as we saw lots of these built along the shoreline around the outside of the island!
