~ our thoughts are things that affect other things ~

Something that is always entertaining (more-so lately) is reading the endless comments when a movie i made goes viral.. I love scanning the comments for all the little bits and pieces of the universe winking back. Some comments are quite profound beneath the surface. some mindlessly ignorant, others grateful, naive, mystified, you name it. so i always record my favorite comments in a notepad. Here’s a slightly more profound one that stood out:

“The only thing I got from this is…why the hell did I get stuck with 40 hours a week and just enough time to waste on taking shits and sleep all while this man is playing with rocks in a lake.”

Excellent! a HUGE part of why i love doing this is for the way it gets people (including myself) to question the status quo of known possibility. there are all sorts of cultural scripts we all follow, whether we are conscious of it or not. cues that make it easier to do one behavior over another. How willing are YOU to break the expected pattern and play outside the box?!?? now that this anonymous person is asking this question, the seed grows. maybe it ends up flourishing, maybe not. but the seed was planted! and can’t be unplanted. Not to say everyone can simply balance rocks in a lake all day and be happy. the point here is that sooooo much more is possible in this life than most have learned through years and years of cultural conditioning. also true for our entire mode of existence. balance with the rest of nature is entirely possible and easily within our collective knowledge set, but the collective will is still catching up.

  1. On May 21, in San Antonio, Texas, I included your beautiful video in my workshop on BALANCE at San Antonio College. It was a part of the 14th Annual Empowered Women Conference. Each woman practiced balancing stones and left with them. They <3'd this & I will continue to show your videos to all my students!

  2. This was exactly the message I got when I saw the video on art fido. I said to my other, “it’s like you question if you are on the right path, because his work opens up the mind to all the possibilities you thought could never be”

  3. I am absolutely facinated with your art… it reminds me that even what seems impossible is far from that. Your amazing creations remind me to Dream… Believe… Do…all without worry that I could fail. Also, it shares a knowing that, if I do “fail”, and my masterpiece crumbles, all I need to do is start again. After all, possibilities and resources (whatever I come up with) are endless. The only limitation are my beliefs. This fits perfectly in my new way of JUST BEING!

Anyway… thanks for sharing your #inspiration. xo Kristine R Cataldo

  5. Hi Micheal,
I also would like to thank you for introducing me to stonebalancing. I’ve been doing it for a month or so and I realy love it.
One thing I’ve noticed is that I can never build a balance if i’m for example angry with my girlfriend. I notice right away that I’m not in balance inside and have to go sort it out first. =)

  6. Gday Michael I’ve been making Stupa’s for a few years just as i walk around our property that was once a rock quarry iv’e recently been posting them on FB and friends started sending me photo’s and links of your stuff and i stand humbled , mate what you do is amazing i love seeing your new creations, as you say it is a meditation in action.
    Thank you for your inspiration.

  7. THIS is “why” I became speechless when I had the privilege of meeting you in person! Your work speaks volumes without words… adding your thoughts and words is icing on the best cake ever! Thank you….

  8. As rocks tumble and grow smoother thru the force of water, your visions come alive with neutrally, beauty and grace. May the feelings of the rocks remain in your consciousness and interact with every design, caught in time. Blessing to you.

  9. I thankfully am not swayed by what others do or do not say. I spent time on your site just like a small child marveling at, being delighted by, and profoundly touched by the images. What did I walk away with? Wanting more.

  10. I am going to take the box outside and NOT think … I love your BEING so … thank you AGAIN (and I’m sure NOT for the last time) for ALL you do … your the embodiment of freedom and am grateful that you share it.

  11. I have always loved playing in creeks and with rocks. I bet this is incredibly fun for you! I even like the way they smell! Funny…because I am an air sign……

  12. this is the angle i envisioned during the entire creation process… didn’t even think to consider the other side. but now i can’t decide which angle i like more.

  13. Even just simply being with the energy of the stones, tapping into their internal balance to find our own, is worth spending time in nature at the most basic level. Thanks!

    1. That’s what surprised me about it when I first started to try to balance rocks, that I could feel the energy increase just before I hit the balance point.
