“I have such a fear of finding another like myself, and such a desire to find one! I am so utterly lonely, but I also have such a fear that my isolation be broken through, and I no longer be the head and ruler of my universe.”

~ Anaïs Nin

Boulder creek seems exceptionally green for this late in october.. maybe my compass is off but here a photo from yesterday as evidence.. a late fall indeed compared to previous years’ photo records.

A new Arch . . ! this one will go on to stand for over 4 months!

  1. I too found this arch fascinating. It has an almost commonplace feel compared to some of your creative ‘stacks’. Yet it stands out as “Brilliant, how did he do that!”

And calendars? You do calendars? What am I thinking? Of course you do calendars. Must have.

  2. Outstanding! I am so fascinated by the arch! That is the base that supports the rest of the stones, but how does one achieve the arch first? I really love this piece!

    1. normally a traditional arch is built using a form, which supports the rocks during building and then removed at the end. BUT, this is a completely different process… the freehand arch, which i support with my hands/body, while building. it’s kind of an all or nothing process.. very slow and deliberate. one collapse throws all these rocks downstream. this arch took several hours. i made the connection several times in that time frame, but the hardest part is getting a smooth archline without a form. not to mention spanning this size of gap with rushing water through it. i estimate the span to be close to 50 cm. which i consider quite big for a freehand arch..

    2. Thank you soooo much for sharing this video with me! My heart is still pounding, even after I watched you obtain the perfect balance at the end. I have a better understanding on how you did the larger piece, using a form makes perfect sense, but am still amazed by the whole process! You are truly gifted in this fine art of balancing stones!

  3. aaaaa!like the balance and love this Anais Nin quote, and as usual, came up today with few more msgs from the universe :) thats the one for me, right on my lonely last day in the most beutiful place i’ve ever been :)) take care Michael Grab, hugs :)
